Legitimate network marketing businesses offer to enroll salespeople as distributors of a product and an affiliate of the company. You earn money in two ways. You earn from the products you sell directly, and you receive a commission from each person who affiliates with the company through you make a sell.

An example might be; You sell x product and you know a person who enjoys that product and purchases it often. You mention to this person that they could make money selling x product also and they are interested. You then refer them to the company that creates x product. They let the company know that you sent them and agree to sell x product also. That person is now in your downline and you receive a portion of the profit for all of the x product that they sell.
